2013 Spring starts today! (about time) This will be my last update on the problems I have had with the Canal and River Trust, for those of you that don’t know they started to make my life a misery last Autumn, either they don’t care or they are too dim to realise they are affecting boaters lives and ironically destroying trade and communities all over again, George Dickinson (patrol officer) and Susie Mercer (trading boat manager) could easily have come up with a solution to keep me trading the much appreciated “floating bike shop” but were too proud to admit they had made the mistake of classing me as a nuisance boater, my conscience is clear, I did my best for the environment I lived in, moved more than some and less than others, looked after my boat and my customers, sadly the real world has caught up with the canals and the dark cloud of bureaucracy has descended on this alternative lifestyle, and is run by people pretending to love the canals more than spreadsheets!. I guess after almost 20 years I will have to find myself a new dream, living somewhere warmer and sunnier would be nice so if you have any ideas please email me, in the meantime....

Cycle repairs with care is the new banner to replace the “floating bike shop” and all these will now be carried out at the land based workshop, this will remain on an appointment basis, although I will be open more often than not I need to remain flexible to help care for aging parents and I thank you for your understanding and will do my best to be available when suits you 7 days a week

The first half of the year (can you believe it’s nearly July already!) has been a very busy one, in the spring Cycling Active Magazine run a feature on me and my Floating bike shop business, many thanks to them and welcome to the new customers that have come my way, at the same time my workshop had the addition of a Harrison lathe, with an increase in one off conversion work I can make those small parts that are always needed.

The jobs I enjoy are a result of my acceptance to do the jobs other bike shops won’t, like refurbishment of this Pashley trike wheel set, strippping down having the rims powdercaoted and rebuilding, Pashley trikes are like busses, no sooner had I finished this set and another came in!

Brompton work is becoming a big part of my life, as well as a quality service for the general servicing and repair of your Brompton , including same day rear hinge bush replacement I do gear conversions from the economic Sturmey Archer 8 speed to the Shimano Alfine 11 speed.

The “Scuff Muffle” has been reintroduced with the availability of colours.

Moving into 2013, with Brompton introducing a new twin wall rim

I will be offering wheel upgrades using the similar Velocity Aero Heat in black or silver as well as the Brompton rim , hubs can also be powdercoated in black or other colours and with spokes and the alloy chainguards soon to be available in colours your Brompton can be even more unique!, email me your ideas!.
